Tanks and Reservoirs


Shinyanga WSSA has a total of 14 tanks and reservoirs that are working well in Shinyanga Municipality, small towns of Didia, Tinde and Iselamagazi with total capacity of 20,530 m3. The system of water from Lake Victoria in Shinyanga Municipality has a main reservoir of concrete located at Old Shinyanga hill with capacity of 18,000m3. This is the main reservoir of treated water from Lake Victoria linked to four pressure break towers/tanks with capacity of 250m3 each for each zone. The existing tank does not contribute significant storage to the system, but rather is used to stabilize water pressure throughout the distribution system. Other storage tanks are Mwawaza (200m3 concrete tank), Didia (90m3 and 50m3 elevated concrete block tank), Tinde (20m3 Plastic tanks) ,Iselamagazi (250m3 concrete Water tower), Bushola (50m3 elevated concrete block tank), Mwamashele (50m3 elevated concrete block tank), Bugimbagu (20m3 Concrete block tank), Negezi sump (50m3 concrete tank), Chibe (50m3 concrete tank) and 700m3 Clear water tank at Ningh’wa treatment plant.


The old distribution network has a total of 11 water tanks, among which 5 are elevated tanks located in various areas such as Mwasele tanks with capacity of 1,500m3 and 225m3, Kizumbi TRM with a capacity of 191m3 and Lubaga with a capacity of 191m3, Kambarage with Capacity 191m3, Chibe with the capacity of 150m3, Old Shinyanga with the capacity of 191m3, Government Hospital with a capacity of 25m3, Nhelegani with a capacity of 25m3, and Mwawaza collection tank with the capacity of 25m3. These water tanks in old distribution system are not working at all.
