Corporate Profile

Shinyanga Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Authority, (SHUWASA) was established under the Water Works Ordinance CAP 281 as per Government Notice No. 369 published on 25th July 1997. Subject to Section 3 (1) of the Water Works Regulations, The Minister responsible for Water Affairs declared Shinyanga Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Authority as a fully autonomous Authority with effect from 1st January 1998 by virtue of Government Notice No. 61 published on 13th February 1998 (as amended by the parliament Act No. 8 of 1997 of the United Republic of Tanzania); thereby revoking Government Notices No. 254, 478 and 113 of 1949, 1962 and 1975 respectively.

In 2007 it was declared to be fully autonomous public entity responsible for the overall operation and management of water supply and sanitation services in Shinyanga Municipality under category A. Under the Water Supply and Sanitation Act No. 12 of 2009, the name Shinyanga Urban Water and Sewerage Authority has changed to Shinyanga Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Authority. The Water and Sanitation Act No. 5 of 2019 changed the name to Shinyanga Water Supply and Sanitation Authority.

The Authority is currently serving four water network extension at Didia (12.1km), Iselamagazi (6.4km), Tinde (15km) and Shinyanga Municipality (20.2km).

The Authority is mandated to provide adequate, quality and sustainable water and waste management services to Shinyanga residents at affordable and cost effective prices.
